Substance Use & Counseling

Ascensa Health
Mon-Fri 8:00 am-4:00 pm

Ascensa Health offers a range of programs to single individuals and women with children who are seeking care for substance use and mental health. Please read the attached program overview for a brief description of all of the programs that Ascensa Health offers. Knowledge of the programs will help you understand the following information and proceed with the next steps!

Eligibility   - You MUST be 18+ to enroll in any of these programs. Minors can join a mother who is enrolling in the Family Care Center (specific requirements apply-- revisit the program overview here for details).

Costs
  • The Detox Program is free and based on a first-come-first-serve basis
  • For Residential Programs: If the client receives any financial assistance, they would have to pay rent at Ascensa Health on a sliding scale. The max amount a client would pay is $480 per month.
  • For Family Care Center: The client would pay rent at Ascensa Health. The money paid for rent would be returned to them once they leave the program
  • Some of the programs require clients to put money into a savings account as they are participating in the program.

Steps
  • To enroll in residential and outpatient* programs, the client will need to fill out the client intake form here and send it back to the admissions team. *Outpatient programs are currently on pause.
  • From here, the admissions team looks over the completed intake form and will determine if the client needs to provide any further medical or health forms.
  • The client will then wait for a bed to open up. There is currently a waitlist for beds, but spots can open up at any time.
  • The duration of the residential programs is anywhere from 6 months to 1 year. Clients will attend AA meetings, and NA meetings, and will get a sponsor. Typically, the center likes to schedule appointments for residential admission, as they like to ensure that a bed is available first.
  • The duration of the outpatient program is 12 weeks. Clients in the outpatient program can not test positive for anything when they first come in. Throughout the outpatient program, clients will be randomly drug tested. Outpatient services are provided Mon-Fri from 8:30 am-12:30 pm. These clients need to have stable housing outside of the program. They can also have stable employment, as long as it falls outside of the program’s hours.
Timeline - Varies depending on service or program.

Additional Services - Residential clients have access to employment and health services through Ascensa Health. Please call the center or visit the website for more details!

Criminal Justice & Supportive Services

Atlanta Victim Assistance
Mon-Fri 7:30 am-4:00 pm

Atlanta Victim Assistance advocates for and provides services to victims of crimes. This organization works alongside the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to retrieve reports made about domestic violence, homicide, identity theft, child abuse, etc and communicates with victims to ensure their needs are met, as it relates to the criminal justice process.

Eligibility   - Eligibility for these services depends on who is listed in the reports received from the Atlanta Police Department. If a minor is listed on the report, they will get assistance with these services.

Cost - None
Steps
  • To report a crime:
  1. Normally, clients can walk into the Municipal Court of Atlanta and visit the 4th floor for assistance from Atlanta Victim Assistance during hours of operation (location and hours listed above).
  2. Clients can also report to a victim advocate located in the Atlanta Police Department until 8:00 pm (location listed above).
  • You will need proof of identification to make a police report.
  • Once Atlanta Victim Assistance receives the reports from the Atlanta Police Department, they make first contact with the victim to make sure they are okay. From there on, they make sure to address any needs the victim may have such as housing, food, counseling, etc. They will refer the victim to partner agencies to help them retrieve these services.
  • This process might look different for law enforcement-based advocates. The law enforcement would reach out to the victim first with investigators/detectives and then Atlanta Victim Assistance (working alongside Atlanta Police Department) would reach out to the victim to make the initial contact with the victim.
  • For court advocates, the court follows up with the victims, prosecutors, etc and then explains what may happen next in court. They will try to walk them through the next steps and resources they may need.
  • Please contact Heidy Liahut if you have any specific questions or concerns. She is a court advocate for Atlanta Victim Assistance. You can call or leave a text, as she is in court most of the time.
